Your First Visit to Our Seattle Practice

New patients are warmly welcomed to our Seattle chiropractic office.

Your first visit at our office is also the longest one.  This is when the doctors collect all the information necessary to take care of you, and you can expect to spend about an hour in our office.

Paperwork

First, you’ll need to fill out some forms that are tailored to your specific situation—general history, auto accident, on the job injury, Medicare, etc.  You can save time by downloading these forms and filling them out prior to your first visit, if you wish.

Introductory Video

You’ll watch a short (8 minute) video that provides basic information about chiropractic, and some of the various examination procedures.

Examination

In the examination room, we’ll first go through your health history with you, to make sure we understand your problems thoroughly.  We measure your spinal flexibility and muscle activity, as well as analyze your posture and palpate (feel) your spine.  We will also perform specific tests, including orthopedic tests as necessary to further evaluate any areas of pain.  With all this information, we can narrow down the areas of your spine that need a closer look, decide if spinal x-rays will be needed, and decide if yours is a chiropractic problem or if a referral to another practitioner is needed.

Reasons for Taking Spinal X-rays

To assess the condition (health) of your spine—whether your spine can tolerate an adjustment, which adjusting techniques or methods are appropriate, and show exactly where the problems are.

Your First Adjustment

You will also receive your first spinal adjustment.  We develop and analyze your x-rays and other examination results on the first visit, so that we can help you right away.  Often, there’s not enough time to explain what all the tests revealed and what we’ve found, but rest assured, we set aside a special time for you on your very next visit to do so.

Dr. David & Dr. Kelly Asks some important questions of interest to Seattle residents - Chiropractor Seattle Dr. David & Dr. Kelly Asks...

What's the difference between a "good" drug and a "bad" drug?
As a chiropractor, I see the use of many drugs (legal or illegal) as merely symptom treating. Worse, virtually every drug produces unwanted effects. The effects of chiropractic are largely positive effects. If you're a Seattle parent, consider carefully before giving your child a cough medication, cold remedy or pain reliever so this sort of question doesn't arise in the first place.
Why are chiropractors wary of the germ theory?
Louis Pasteur originated the idea that germs caused disease. Yet, on his deathbed he recanted, declaring, "It's not the seed, but the soil." Meaning, it's not the germ that causes disease, but the condition of the body that allows the germ to thrive. Chiropractic care in our Seattle office is designed to bolster your resistance so germs don't see you as a good host.
